***Joe Ellis’ Tea Room Guide English Tea Room***
Joe’s Review…
Sarre Windmill is a Grade II listed smock mill in Sarre, Kent that was built in 1820, and is now a commercially working windmill that has been restored and is open to the public.
The Tea Room at Sarre Windmill has recently changed hands and I believe have returned to the owners of the Windmill.
It has come a long way over the years and I always visited the tea room for years which had geese roaming around at their free will and tea and food was served from a counter from an outside wooden hut. Nowadays however, the tea room has its own building with indoor and outdoor seating it is themed to yesteryear and the menu, although quite limited, does offer local sausage and breakfast, sandwiches and a good selection of cakes. Flour and oats from the mill are on sale alongside the jam and special biscuits.
The tea room is popular among Kent cyclists who often stop for a rest and a drink and enjoy the English countryside.
I miss the geese and I felt it made the place special but the Sarre Windmill & Tea Room is a great to have an enjoyable day out, pay a little to go inside the mill and enjoy some food in the lovely Thanet surroundings. Sarre is a small place and the Windmill can be seen for miles around.
The owners are nice people too and are they are the only ones who are serving the customers and making the food, which, apart from saving costs, does add that little special touch.
STATUS
I can fully recommend Sarre Windmill & Tea Room and take the family and friends and enjoy yourself.
RE-VISIT
I constantly revisit the Sarre Windmill & Tea Room and I re-visited this tea room again on Sunday 08 August 2010 with Sandra. As usual, excellent homemade food and lovely surrounding in the heart of the Kent countryside.
